Birmingham is England's second city and getting part-time work in a city as energetic as Birmingham shouldn't be a problem. As a student, looking for a job can take a bit of time, but getting one has many benefits, like increasing your social circle, providing extra finance and gaining a valuable addition to your CV.

Firstly, you should ask at the students' union as they might have a list of centres that have asked for student workers to cover shifts or do some part-time work. Also, the students' union might have some places to fill themselves, so start there. The university often offers work to students. International students might get some work as translators for example and there's always work in offices.

Temping agencies are a good place to look for work and they will help you construct a CV (sometimes for a fee - so be diligent) to help you find work quicker. Cafés, bars, pubs and clubs are constantly looking for bottle and glass collectors, bar staff and kitchen staff, so ask for an application form at these places.

The great thing about getting work is that it's good for your CV, showing potential employers that you're reliable with time, money or customer services, so make sure you get good references from previous employers.
