Yesterday, I was lucky enough to get an exclusive look at the new MAC that absolutely no one else at all got to see. And the verdict is... Its really good.
My overriding memories of the place is a kinda run down, semi-shoddy rag tag place that had a great indy cinema programme and some cracking stand-up gigs, but was usually populated with kids covered in the remnants of sticky ice lollies and a obscure amount of rooms and spaces no one got to see.
The new MAC is light and connected with a lot thought put into how people move through spaces. The thing that struck me the most was how inspiring the spaces were - the main art space being the biggest traditional white cube art space I've seen.
Now, even as a failed art student, the scope of the place got the ol' jucies going once again. And creativly i'm dead inside so I can't wait to see what actual artists do with it.
I was assured that the programme of interesting Indy films and documentary would continue, and am confident that the sheer volume of professional quality space will not only house all the best touring quality shows, but also inspire the wealth of local talent to produce worldwide quality events to tour as well.
