The first place for live sport

For years, Birmingham's sports scene has been up and running. More than that, it's the country's centre of attention.

Maybe it's the passion of the people, maybe it's the excitement on the pitch or the atmosphere in the stands that makes this city the best place in the country to watch live sport.

England plays regular Test Matches and One Day International cricket at Edgbaston, where the vocal support of the fans is legendary. The ground is also home to the Warwickshire Bears whose exploits in the Twenty20 Cup attract big crowds. The atmosphere for day-night matches, underneath the floodlights and with the entertainment in full flow on and off the pitch, is a real treat.

Since 1991, The National Indoor Arena has witnessed some unforgettable moments in athletics, badminton and Davis Cup tennis. More than four million spectators have come to cheer on some of the biggest names in world sport.

There's an intense footballing rivalry in the city that unites and divides in equal measure. Aston Villa and Birmingham City attract a fervent following and matches between the two are among the highlights of the sporting calendar.

At a more sedate pace, The Belfry  is one of the world's most famous golfing venues. Its three courses, including The Brabazon, four-time host of the Ryder Cup, provide a test for players of all standards.

The stars of women's tennis gather regularly in Edgbaston for the AEGON Classic, their last chance to prepare on grass for Wimbledon.
