With a new fashion season fast approaching, it's the job of our designers and retailers to come up with something to really catch the eye. Luckily Birmingham has been producing great designs for some time now.

Just take a look at our many retail outlets in the Jewellery Quarter, at The Custard Factory or The Mailbox. You can't help but be impressed by their output.

The Custard Factory, over on the east side of the city, has been the central hub for designers making great individual statements in fashion and style. The boutiques such as Diabolik, Fragile Design and Ideal Skate Shop brim with the coolest new clothes.

The latest designer labels can also be found at A Too, a high-end boutique with variety a constant theme. You'll find labels like Helmut Lang, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood sitting shoulder to shoulder with some up-to-the-minute street wear.

At the other end of the shopping spectrum we have Vintage Clothing UK which, as the name suggests, courts its clientele with a wide range of second hand clothes. Racks upon racks of good quality threads are on offer. You'll find some great bargains too.

I agree that Birmingham is becoming a center for intelligent, classic design, and I particularly like the Custard Factory approach which really does encompass the spirit of youig innovation in the city.
