Birmingham has a wide variety of places to eat out and drink. With a wide range of menus and prices I've never be stuck for somewhere to eat at any time during the day, or night. The choice of restaurants in the city centre is endless with, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Thai, French, British and many gourmet restaurants all within walking distance from each other. There are many different places to eat to suit any budget, whether it be a cheap burger and a pint to a luxurious 3 course meal and anywhere in between, there's always places to go. I simply love the choice of restaurants Birmingham has to offer!

Being a university student, I rarely get the opportunity to eat out, but when I do there are places that I like to go that offer competitive prices without compromising the quality of food. My favourite place to eat in Birmingham has to be Nando's, the food is excellent.  The food they serve there is Portuguese, they mainly specialise in chicken dishes but also serve a range of burgers, salads as well as side dishes such as chips and rice, the Peri-Peri Chicken is worth a try as it is their speciality dish. Nando's prices are extremely reasonable, you could eat out for less than £15 and you certainly get your moneys worth as the portions are huge.  The atmosphere in the restaurant is lively also, the staff are very friendly and it is a very nice place to go to have a meal. There are many Nando's restaurants dotted around the city, there is one in the Bullring which is very handy if you want something quick and easy to eat whilst shopping, there are also Nando's restaurants on Broad Street, The Mailbox and Paradise Forum, which is good because wherever you are in the city its wont me a far journey to find one.

There are many restaurants in Birmingham that give you student discount which comes in very handy if you are strapped for cash, one way I find out about these offers is by visiting www.studentbeans.com, this websites allows you to print off vouchers for restaurants such as:  MinZu, Papa Johns, Bourneville Lane Chinese and many more, I have saved a lot of money checking this website, it has allowed me to eat at places I wouldn't normally be able to afford.

If you fancy treating yourself to something a little bit naughty then Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will appeal to your sweet tooth, located on the bottom floor of Selfridges (The Bull Ring) Krispy Kreme's sell a variety of American style doughnuts, which in my opinion are the best I have ever tasted. Also if you go at certain times during the day, for every purchase you make, you get a doughnut free!

Birmingham's nightlife is the best in England, in my opinion, the atmosphere is fantastic and the choice of places to go-out is endless, each place offering its own unique styles and quirks, there are always places offering cheap drinks, so it's not expensive either. There are hundreds of bars, pubs and nightclubs to choose from, so if you fancy a few drinks in a quite pub away from all of the hustle and bustle of city life there is something for you, or if you fancy a lively night out clubbing you will also be spoilt for choice as New Street, Birmingham has some of the best nightclubs in the country.

Broad Street is the best place to go for a night out in Birmingham. Broad Street is the main entertainment strip in Birmingham with a wide variety of pubs, bars and clubs, it is certainly the place to go if you fancy a lively night out. With over 50 places to chose from, this area is certainly the favourite for many students, making it a very entertaining place to go out, any night of the week.

I tend to enjoy going to pubs for a quiet drink from time to time, when you don't fancy going out clubbing, Birmingham has some really nice pubs to chose from. I lived in Perry Barr last year, and the one pub you should go to if you are in the area is the Hare of the Dog. It is the main student pub for the Birmingham City University students living in Perry Barr, which means it is always busy and has a great atmosphere. The pub is part of the Scream chains of pubs, so the prices of alcohol is very cheap, one of the cheapest I have found in Birmingham, if you get a 'YellowCard' the drinks are even cheaper. They also serve great food, I would recommend getting the 'Scream Burger.' Every week the pub holds a quiz night which is always good fun, and they often have great prizes for the winners, including free beer and vouchers. When it's not raining, you can sit outside in the beer garden, which is really nice, they often have BBQs in the summer, which are worth looking out for.

Birmingham is the main city outside London for night-life and entertainment, the number of students in Birmingham means that the atmosphere is always fantastic when going out whatever day of the week or wherever you go, but you can always find quiet places to drink and chat if you would prefer. You are guaranteed to have one of your best nights-out ever you come to Birmingham.
