Our campus in the centre of Birmingham gives Aston students the best of both worlds, a green, well-equipped, friendly campus in the heart of a vibrant city.

With around 7,000 students, Aston is a lively, diverse, close-knit community. It's difficult to walk across campus without bumping into someone you know! You'll find all you need at Aston's great academic, support and social facilities, and plentiful accommodation, which is guaranteed for first years.

Students' Guild

The Guild is the main entertainment venue on campus, and is also home to our Student Advice Centre, where you can get help and advice on all aspects of student life. Wireless internet access is available throughout the Guild.

 

Einstein's

Einstein's café and bar is open throughout the day serving good value food. During the day many students go to Einstein's to grab some food and meet friends between lectures. Drinks and food are also available in the evenings, and the bar shows most of the major live sporting events.

The Loft

The Loft is our recently revamped, £200,000 social and study space. There's an open area with plenty of comfy sofas, where you can meet friends and course mates, and also a quieter study area. The Loft is also home to an IT suite with PCs, and plenty of power points for laptops.

The Base

The Base is a comfortable area where many of our students relax during the day. Markets, poster sales and other events are also regularly held here during the day.

After dark The Base turns in to the Guild Hall where all of the major evening events are held. Loads of different nights run throughout term to cater for most musical tastes.

The regular Friday club night usually has a theme, giving you an excuse to get dressed up. The Guild Hall also host balls, end of term parties, live music, comedy nights and other events.

Astonbury

2008 saw the first Astonbury festival. Campus was transformed for a night as loads of acts played over two stages, with the festival brought to a close with a headline set by Radio 1's Zane Lowe. The sell-out event was a massive success and more is planned for next year...

Clubs & societies

Being a relatively small university, it's easy to get involved in clubs and societies at Aston. With around 80 to choose from, you're pretty much guaranteed to find one to suit you, and if you can't, you can set one up!

Sport

There are two sports centres on campus, including a swimming pool, sports halls, fully equipped fitness centre and gym. Outdoor sports take place at our 45 acre recreation centre. Many Aston students are involved in one of our 40 plus sports clubs  - a great way to keep fit and meet people.

All Aston's facilities are based on our campus, and the emphasis is definitely on making all our learning and teaching resources easy to access and user-friendly.

IT and Computing Facilities

The university has invested in excellent computing facilities and integrated the instruction and use of IT into degree programmes.

The university maintains serveral computer suites around the campus, that are available for students' use 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using a swipe card system.  IT facilities are free to our students and are linked by out Local Area Network, which spans the campus and provides access to other networks worldwide.

The university has also invested into a new WiFi campus access system enabling students to access the internet from their study bedrooms on campus using laptops with wireless technology, providing all students living on campus internet access in their rooms if they require it.

Library and Information services

The University library is on four floors containing over 300,000 books, it also provides online access to over 40 electronic databases and more than 3,400 electronic journals in many subject areas.  You can access many of these from any computer on campus and also from home or other locations off campus.

With PC labs, a bookshop, photocopiers, printers, group study areas and a coffee lounge, the library is an ideal place to study.  During term time, it is open for 75 hours each week, include Saturdays and Sundays. The library is also open during all university vacations including Saturdays and Sundays.

Placement years

The placement year is an integral part of the learning experience at Aston, with over 70% of our students taking a placement in the UK or abroad. The vast majority of placements are paid and the practical experience our students gain is invaluable when it comes to looking for graduate jobs. In fact, around a fifth of our placement students are offered graduate jobs by their placement employer.

Learn a language

Whatever course you are doing, you can choose to study French, German or Spanish whilst you are at Aston. Our language courses are available at beginners, intermediate or advanced level, and are a great way to enhance your career prospects.

Our Learning Development Centre can help you develop the skills you need to get the most from your degree. Our team of specialists provide help and advice on revision techniques, presentation skills, essay writing and much more.
